Vernon M. McDaniel
Gloucester - Vernon M. "Bill" McDaniel, 79, died on Friday, May 8, 2009, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.
He was a native of Richmond, *Va., and had been a resident of Gloucester since 1961. Vernon was born on December 27, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Edith McDaniel; and brother, Charles Aubrey McDaniel.
Vernon retired from Dominion Power after 25 years of service in Richmond and Gloucester and was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War (and) was rewarded with a Bronze Star. He served in the 279th Infantry Unit, Company H and enjoyed going to his Company reunions in Oklahoma. He had a great love for the water, crabbing, and relaxing on the Outer Banks.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons Rudy, Vernon Jr., and Randy McDaniel; grandchildren, Jena Cumming, Ryan, B.J., Sarah, and Olivia McDaniel.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, in Bellamy United Methodist Church in Gloucester by the Rev. Stephen Vineyard. Burial will be in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
