HUSBAND:

Nancy Lawton's first husband was Captain Ellis Luther, whom she married 30 Sept 1798, by which she had two children: Ellis Lawton Luther and Cordelia. Capt. Luther was gone to sea for such a length of time that he was declared dead and she then married Isaac Mason in 1813, by whom she had five children: Lorenzo (b. bet 1813-15); Mary Ann (b. 6 Oct 1815 Bristol NY, d. 25 Feb 1899 Will Co. IL); Almerin S. (b. 1818 Bristol NY, d. 7 Sept 1903 Will Co. IL); Benajah (b. aprox. 1820, Bristol NY); and an unknown/unnamed son b. aprox. 1823 in Bristol NY.

First husband was Capt. Ellis Luther, whom she married in 1798 and with whom she had two children. He supposedly was lost at sea, and "Nancy Luther" appears as head of household in the 1810 US census with her two young Luther children. She married widower Isaac Mason in 1813 and removed with him to Ontario Co., NY. Isaac died in 1843, and she removed to Will Co., IL, with her grown children and her step-children from Isaac's first marriage. A Luther genealogy metnions a rumor that her first husband returned after her remarriage, but there is no proof offered. She and Isaac had a 'yours, mine and ours' household: Hale Sulliban Mason (1804-1892) and Henry Mason (1811-1848) from Isaac's marriage to Sally Simmons; Ellis Lawton Luther and Cordelia Luther from Nancy Lawton's first marriage to Ellis Luther; and, Almerin S. Mason (1818-1903), Benajah Mason (1820-1899) and Lorenzo Dow Mason (1823-1862) as children of Isaac and Nancy.
