WAYNE THOMPSON OBITUARY
Wayne Edward Thompson, 61, has died suddenly at his home in Chester, South Carolina.
Born on November 20, 1960, Mr. Thompson was the only son of Jimmy Wayne Thompson of Chester and Judy Horry from Boston in England, who his father met while in the American Air Force stationed in Lincolnshire after the war.
Unmarried, he is survived by a sister who lives in England, Christina Redford; a nephew, James Caborn; and a great-niece, Clemmie Caborn.
He is also survived by a cousin, Tina Black of Indian Land, South Carolina, and her family.
Raised in Chester, Mr. Thompson attended Chester High School, where he graduated as valedictorian.
After graduating with Honours at Furman University in Greenville, he began a successful career in sales, reaching managerial status and receiving many accolades for his achievements.
Retired in recent years, Mr. Thompson was a sports lover, maintaining a keen interest in football while supporting the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers.
His other interests included bowling, cooking, gardening and growing the hottest peppers he could for his homemade barbecue sauce.
As well as his hobbies, Mr. Thompson was also a volunteer at Chester Friends of the Animals.
In paying tribute to him, the charity's assistant manager, Amanda, said he had supported them from the beginning.
"He had given many hours towards the charity's mission and success and will be missed by many," she said.
Mr. Thompson's cremation took place at South Eastern Crematory.
His family from England travelled to Chester to pay tribute to "a loving brother and uncle" and arrange a small family memorial.
They would like to thank Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker and Deputy Coroner Jenifer Minors, Chester Friends of the Animals, the Chester mail service, neighbors and family friend Rosita Adams for their kindness and support at such a difficult time.
Anyone who would like to pay tribute to Mr. Thompson is asked to make a donation to Chester Friends of the Animals.
Funeral arrangements were by Lewis Funeral Home.
