Richard (Dick) was born in Yankton, South Dakota and passed at the age of 86 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Dick was an Army veteran, postal worker, teacher and painter. He is one of six children. Dick joined the Army in 1957 where he served 20 years. During that time, he did three tours in Vietnam and retired the rank Sergeant Major. He earned a National Defense Service medal, Army Commendation medal, Air medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Bronze Star medal with 3 oak leaf flusters, Combat Infantry badge, Parachutist badge, and four overseas bars. He also taught military science classes at Western Michigan University.

In 1975, he met and married Robin Romaine Waters. After his retirement from the army, he worked at the post office in Kalamazoo, MI, then transferred to Colorado Springs, CO. Together they enjoyed life and 45 years of marriage.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Robin Romaine Waters, his parents Elmer Sanford and Leila Alice Waters, his sisters Millicent and Doris, his brothers Don, Dan, and Daryll, and his son Gordon Waters.

He is survived by his daughter Lauretta (Missy) and James Bare of Gunnison, CO, his son Quintin (Shane) and Kris Waters of Pompano Beach, FL, his son Tim Waters and grandson Wesley Waters of Fountain, CO, granddaughter Sidney and Josh Hartner (Bare) of Gunnison, CO, granddaughter Carly Bare of Gunnison, CO, and grandson Zachary Bare of Belgrade, MT.

There will be a committal service at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 440 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, CO 80236, on August 1, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.
