Married in 1953, Donna had her first child in 1954, and a total of six children, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She dedicated over three decades to being a stay-at-home Mother, which allowed her to be an active volunteer in the children's schools, scouts, music, clubs, sports, etc. Her favorite hobby during these years was bowling, for which she was outstanding and carried an average of greater than 170 for several years.
Donna married her self-described "love of her life" William "Bill" Brown in 1988. Together, they founded, owned, and managed All Occasion Balloons in Brownsburg for several years until selling it in order to retire in their new condominium home. At that time, Donna and Bill were attending Camby Christian Church, and traveled all over the country until Bill passed away. Donna had a quiet but determined faith in the Lord, which led to her to attend Chapel Rock Christian Church, near her condo on the westside of Indianapolis. She became an active volunteer by helping to lead various activities for "The Rockets", a group of retired church members.
Donna was also an avid crafter. From cards to wreaths, she enjoyed creating many beautiful things. She spent much of her time making and sending cards to brighten people's days. She also loved spending time with friends and family doing jigsaw puzzles.
Donna was preceded in death by her father Robert, her brother Robert "Bob" Avels, her mother Dorothy, her husband William "Bill" Brown, and her son Robert "Bobby" Raikes. Donna is survived by her son James Raikes (wife Glenda); her daughter Carol Eckert; her daughter Patty Dill (husband Cary); her son Gary Raikes (wife Lori); her daughter Cheri Davis (husband Bill), as well as her seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Donna touched are invited to share their stories with family and friends at a Celebration of Life Service at Chapel Rock Christian Church, 2020 N. Girls School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46214 on Monday, July 11, 2022. Visitation hours 10am-12pm, with the service at 12:00pm.
