Reflections of Life
James (Leo) was born on July 31,1943 in Dawson, Georgia. His parents were the late great James L. Lewis Sr. and Carrie Mae Moon Lewis. Leo was the fourth child and the third son of six siblings. James (Leo) joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age. He grew up in the church. Most people called him Leo he was loving, funny, compassionate, and well respected. Leo attended the public schools of Terrell County, Georgia and at the age of 18; He graduated from Carver High School in 1961. After graduating Leo traveled up North to Jersey City, New Jersey where he remained until 1968. After returning back to (Dawson) Terrell County, Georgia he met his wife Joann James Lewis. Leo and Joann joined in Holy Matrimony on February 14,1970. They have been joined together every since, this year they celebrated 52nd Wedding Anniversary!
James (Jim) was always a hardworking man and a great provider that wore many hats from a barber, coach, and he loved to work in his garden. He was employed at Firestone Tire and Rubber for 17 years then he ventured to Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center until he retired in 2004. Mr. Lewis (Jim) was a strong employee, and he truly loved his clients and staff. He received many service awards for his outstanding performance as a Rehabilitation Instructor/Supervisor. Leo had three beautiful daughters: Menita Lewis-Taylor of Detroit, Angela Lewis Marshall of Albany, and last but not least his baby girl Carrie Jamia Lewis of Albany.
James was preceded in death by his parents James Sr. and Carrie Mae Lewis as well as his (2) Sisters: Emma Kate Holloway and Louise Bishop and his (2) Brothers Jimmie Lewis and Alonzo Lewis Sr.
Leo is survived by his wife Joann Lewis, Menita Lewis-Taylor and Aaron Taylor (Detroit), Angela Lewis-Marshall and Derrick Marshall (Albany) and Carrie Jamia Lewis and Tim Gordon (Albany). Leo had two wonderful grandchildren whom he loved and adored Malia and Jordan Marshall of Albany, Ga. Leo is also survived by one brother Rev. Robert and Mary Lewis of Albany, Ga. In- laws Mary and William Wigfall of Atlanta, Ga., Gladys Williams James of Albany, Ga and one brother-in-law Commissioner Lucious Holloway of Dawson, Ga. and a loving devoted Care Giver Gwen Mosely of Albany, Ga. Leo also has a host of Nieces, Nephews, and friends whom he loved dearly. James Leo Lewis has received his wings and will be truly missed. May he rest well in heaven.
