Anna Katharina Eckstein was first married to Johann Euler (born about 1810). Records from the Lutheran Church in Ober Breidenbach, Hesse, Germany, show that the couple had four children:
- Johannes (b. 1831)
- Conrad (b. 1834; d. 1838)
- Katharina (b. 1837; d. 1837)
- Heinrich (b. 1843)

Katarina, Johann, and sons Johannes and Heinrich emigrated from Germany to Canada West (Ontario) around 1845 and settled near Mannheim, Wilmot Township.

After Johann Euler's death (between 1845 and 1849), Katharina "Catherine" married Johannes "John" Herchenratter (b. 1816). They were wed on March 6, 1849, by Lutheran pastor F. W. Bindeman in Greenbush (now a part of Kitchener, Ontario).

The 1851 Census of Canada West shows that Catherine and John Herchenreder [sic] lived in Waterloo Township. The census lists three children:
- Henry (the aforementioned "Heinrich")
- August (son from John's previous marriage)
- Conrad (son from Catherine and John's marriage).

John Herchenratter died sometime between 1854 and 1860.

At the time of the 1861 census, Catherine, again a widow, resided with step-son Conrad in Wilmot Township.

In the censuses of 1871, 1881, and 1891, Catherine lived with son Henry Euler and his family in Conestogo, Ontario.

Catherine Herchenratter died on June 24, 1896, at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 11 days. A death record reveals that she suffered from "general debility" and was "bedridden" for the last two years of her life.
