Donald Travis Johnson was born May 8, 1939, in Strang, Oklahoma to Otho and Ella Mae (Thompson) Johnson. He departed this life on July 12, 2022, at the age of 83 years 2 months and 4 days in Salina, Oklahoma with his family by his bedside. Don married the love of his life Helen Mae (Patton) on July 9, 1957, and they just celebrated 65 years of marriage before the Lord called him home. Don grew up around Mayes County. He worked in the butcher departments at several local grocery stores before opening his own butcher shop. He and his wife ran Johnson's Meat Plant for 13 years before selling it and retiring. If Don wasn't at home, you could always find him in the hayfields, working his cattle, making arrowheads or fishing! He sure loved to fish, especially for catfish, also doing some commercial fishing. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, tractors, and doing tractor pulls, and car shows. He looked forward to family events, watching his grandkids, great grandkids grow, sporting events, fishing, you name it, he would try to be there. He was a member of the Oddfellows. Don was a member of the Salina Assembly of God and also attended Blue Springs Church. Don was a loving, caring, wonderful husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and friend who will be greatly missed. He leaves behind many memories for his family to cherish.
