David and his brother Robert moved their families to Illinois in 1812. After coming to Illinois David was licensed to preach in the Methodist Episcopal church and preached for the remainder of his life. His sons Thomas and Robert also became Methodist Episcopal preachers. His brother Robert was a Methodist preacher as well.
David is believed to be a first cousin to David White who came from Oglethorpe County, Georgia to St. Clair County about 1812.
Some information above was taken from "The Martyr of Winfield" by Robert H. White, son of James Russell White and grandson of Rev. David S White. This reference also confirmed that William H. White is a son of David and Hannah.
