Graveside services for Adella (Fields) Bixler, 95 year-old Hydro, OK resident, were held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Hydro Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Paul McDowell officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home of Weatherford.

Adella was born on June 26, 1912 in Hinton, OK to George Osmond and Barbara Ann (Vance) Fields and passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, OK. Adella was raised and attended school in Hinton. Her education began at Alpine school, west of Hinton, graduating from Hinton High School in 1930. Adella attended Oklahoma City University ('30-'33), Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Central State College in Edmond, and Fort Hays Kansas State College, and earned a Master of Teaching Degree with certification in Special Education from Southwestern State College. On September 6, 1935, she married Claude W. Bixler in Hydro, OK. Adella taught school in schools near Hinton and Hydro, Corn, Yukon, Liberal, KS, and Bethany, OK. She retired after teaching school in Putman City. Adella helped Claude with his bees and honey and exhibits at the fairs. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, quartets and trios, and was WSCS president at the Hydro Methodist Church. She enjoyed writing remembering stories called "Before Then" that were included in a family newsletter and were printed in the Hinton Record. Adella also wrote stories of when she and Claude first came to Hydro that she called "Canadian South" that were published in the Country Connection.

Adella is survived by three children, Betty Hammons and husband Glyn of Abilene, TX, Mary Buckner of Norman, OK, and Bill Bixler of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude of more than 61 years; her parents; three brothers, Esker, Osmond, and Orville; and four sisters, Maude Mitchell, Christine Erlenmaier, Estelle Anderson, and Lucille Heldermon.
