SMITH, Joan Charlotte age 96 of Fairfield, Ohio passed away Thursday June 23, 2022. Joan was born in Hamilton, Ohio on January 23, 1926, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Ditmeyer) Kremer. On July 6, 1957 she married Manson (Mickey) Smith, who preceded her in death on May 19, 2020. Also preceding her in death are two sisters, Mary Ann Lintner and Sr. Dorothy Marie Kremer SC, and two brothers, Albert and Lawrence Kremer.
Those blessed with knowing Joan would describe her as a wonderful, caring, and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother or friend. But her faith in God, volunteering for church fundraisers, passion for gardening, bird feeding and care for nature of all kinds were also a big part of her life. Born and raised on a farm, Joan was very active her entire life – she was known for tilling her large tomato garden into her 90s. Her roadside tomato stand on Mack Road in Fairfield was a summer season highlight for many for decades.
Joan is survived by five children Daniel Smith, Thomas Smith (Anne), Anne Lehnig (Tony), Theodore Smith (Kim), and Patricia Marek (Gary). She was also adored by ten grandchildren and blessed with seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 AM Friday, July 15, 2022 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family of Joan ask donations be sent to one of Joan's passions, the National Audubon Society.
