He was a member of the Community Church at Tellico Village; was a U.S. Navy veteran who served from 1954-56 as Engineer Officer in USS KYNE (DE-744); and was a member of American Legion Post 256, Tellico Lake, TN.
"Andy" Ewing was raised in Upstate New York and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY (1954). He later served as President of that university's Alumni Association. Professionally, he held executive positions with several prominent firms in the New York City and Washington, D.C. metro areas, including Vice President and Buildings Division Manager in Parsons Brinckerhoff Construction Services, Inc., before retiring in 1997. Noteworthy among the building projects he oversaw during his career were the Boston Federal Courthouse and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport. He remained active in retirement, serving as Vice Chairman of the Tellico Village Architectural Control Committee, a member of the Tellico Village Community Church Architectural Selection Committee, and Chair and Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Loudon County.
Andy Ewing had been an Eagle Scout, and he stayed involved in Scouting as an adult volunteer - as District Chairman for the Chicago, IL Thunderbird District; later as Scoutmaster for Troop 2 in Rowayton, CT, where he resided for many years, serving there also as President of the local Civic Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Russell Ewing, Sr. And mother, Harriet Springfield Ewing.
He is survived by Joan, his loving wife of 62 years; sisters Marcia Baldeschwieler and Allison Kaminsky; sons Scott Andrew and Douglas John; daughter Andrea Ewing Schmid; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance Service will be held on July 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Church at Tellico Village with Rev. Jennifer Brown officiating. Military honors will be conferred by the Loudon County Veteran Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Way of Loudon County, TN or to the Community Church at Tellico Village, Loudon, TN.
