Ephrata

Jeanette (Farrington) Barnes Jolly, a longtime resident of Ephrata passed away November 23, 2004. She was born on December 17, 1912, at Lewiston Idaho. Her parents were Ralph M. Farrington and Edith Jean Patterson. Her early school years were in Spokane and Wenatchee. She graduated from Chelan High School in 1931.

Jeanette married L. Ford Barnes at Wenatchee in 1933. In
1951, they moved to Ephrata where they owned and operated the Barnes Shop on Basin Street North. Ford passed away in
1966, and Jeanette continued to operate the store until 1976, when it was sold.

She married Clifford K. Jolly in 1971, and they continued to live in Ephrata. She and Clifford traveled extensively and Jeanette became happily acquainted with her new family. Cliff passed away in 1992. Jeanette was very busy in community affairs and activities. She was instrumental in bringing the community concert to Ephrata. She was a Past President of retail trade and a member of altruse during her 25 store years, she coordinated many fashion shows, locally and at the Larson AFB. The 1st show was at the Ephrata Air Base when the Water was turned on for the Columbia Basin Irrigation.

She was Past President of the Columbia Basin Hospital Auxiliary and for many years she was chairman of the Columbia Basin Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Fund. Jeanette donated 19 Afghans that she crocheted, raising thousands of dollars for the CBH Auxiliary to buy equipment for the hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ephrata. She enjoyed crocheting many baby afghans and donated them to the church's maternity closet and to the new mother's in the church. In 1998, she donated a baby Grand Piano to the church.

Jeanette was a benefactor of New Masquers Theater in Soap Lake which was named in her honor. She donated a theraputic-whirlpool tub to south wing of the Columbia Basin Hospital and a special playground slide to the City of Ephrata Splash Zone swimming pool. Mrs. Jolly was preceded in death by her parents and older sister Maxine. She is survived by two step-sons and their spouses, Clifford and Cheryl Jolly of Kent, Washington and Melvin and Sue Jolly of Nampa, Idaho; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister in-law, Nell Vaugn of Coulee City, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. Special friends include Louise Ingebrigtson and Lorene and Mike Sheldon. Also a niece and husband Nadine and Bob Ballus of Palm Desert, California; nephew, Dan DeWitt and wife JoAnn of Mercer Island, Washington; God children include Kristine Nesse of Kettle Falls, Washington, Douglas Bowie of Wenatchee, Washington and a special God child is Maryann Bowie-Lynch and her husband Robert Lynch of Ketchikan, Alaska.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia Basin Hospital Auxiliary, The United Methodist Church or a charity of choice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church at 117 C Street. N.W. Ephrata, WA. Arrangements under the direction of Nicoles Funeral Home of Ephrata, Washington.
