Kelly Jim Duncan, 89, died July 10th, 2022, in Athens. He was born on July 22, 1932 in Cayuga, Texas, the son of James Lonnie and Alma (Pet) Conard Duncan. He was named after his grandfather, Jim Frank Duncan, who traveled to Texas with the Godley-Benton-Johnson wagon train in 1863.

Kelly graduated from Cayuga High School where he was named All State twice in Basketball. In his senior year, Kelly set scoring records while leading his team to a state basketball championship. He was selected outstanding player for the 1951 THSCA All Star game and was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984. Kelly played basketball at Texas Christian University then at Sam Houston State University, where he received a national award for his free-throw prowess, before enlisting in U.S. Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended Stephen F. Austin University and received a Bachelor of Science. He married Barbara Defore and had 4 children while working in East Texas as a high school coach and teacher. He married Carolyn Bessire Riddlesperger in 1977 and became step-dad to her two children. Caroline and Kelly celebrated 41 years of marriage. Kelly loved the outdoors especially gardening and hunting. He was a Christian and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter, Tina Little and his step-son, William J Riddlesperger, Jr. Surviving are his daughters Dr. Jo Dee Duncan-Mosier and her husband Melvin, Cindy R. Trammell and her husband, Gary, and his sons, Billy Duncan and his wife Shelly, and Alan Duncan; 11 grandchildren, Amanda Hogan and husband Derek, Kelly Frank Duncan and wife Candice, Jennifer Robertson and husband Matt, Billy Duncan, Jr, Lyric Duncan, Bryce Morgan, Scott Morgan and wife Tiffany, Doug Morgan and wife Mary, Duke Duncan, Dale Duncan, and Dave Duncan; and numerous great grandchildren.

A memorial service in remembrance will be held at First Baptist Church of Crossroads on Saturday, July 16 at 4 p.m.
