Jim, age 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2022 surrounded by family.

Originally from Nashville, TN, Jim attended Father Ryan High School and went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University. He then moved to Knoxville where he earned a law degree from the University of Tennessee. Jim was a lifelong criminal defense attorney and spent the last 25 years of his career with the Knox County Public Defender's Office. His passion for justice, the law, and helping his clients was evident to all who knew him. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral for the past 35 years. Jimbo was also an avid fan of Vols' and Titans' football.

He is preceded in death by his parents: James Joseph, Sr. and Sarah; siblings: Michael, Catherine, and Sarah; nephew and godson: John Taylor Caine.

Jim is survived by sons James "Jay", III (Daphne) and Matthew Patrick (Casey); beloved granddaughter Emilia Rose—the light of his life; siblings Peter, Christine Stephens (Tommy), and Mary Caine (Larry); along with many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as Bobo.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 13th at 2pm at Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by a Celebration of Jim at The Square Room in Market Square. Burial and graveside service will occur later in the week at Calvary Cemetery in Nashville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's honor to Catholic Charities of East Tennessee Donate (ccetn.org) or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Make a Memorial Donation - JDRF
