Husband of Corrie Rosier Whitehead


SYLVANIA - Lewis Conway Whitehead, age 83, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. He was born in Screven County and was self-employed as a painter. He was a member of Jackson Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh Ethridge and Lucy Bragg Whitehead; brothers, John "Buddy" Whitehead and Jimmy Whitehead; grandson, Christopher Baxter.
Survivors: wife, Corrie Rosier Whitehead of Sylvania; daughters and son-in-law, Rose W. and Billy Sheley of Sylvania and Connie W. Howell of Sylvania; son, Keith Whitehead of Savannah; sisters, Margie W. Godbee of Sylvania, Louise W. Daily of Millen and Marie W. Hutcheson of Sylvania; brothers, David Whitehead of Barnwell, S.C., and Sollie Whitehead of Claxton, Ga.; grandchildren, Sandy Sheley of Beaufort, S.C., Kelly Sheley of Beaufort, S.C., Kim Baxter of Sylvania and Heather Oliver of Statesboro; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 6-8 p.m.
Funeral service: Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Jackson Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Sowell and the Rev. Ralph Dixon Jr. officiating. Burial in Jackson Baptist Church Cemetery.
He will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers: Kelly Sheley, Greg Kinard, Jody Kinard, Jason Whitehead, Chris Reddick and Jeremy Rosier. Honorary pallbearer: Brittany Devlin.
