Ed was a Veteran who proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was owner and operator of the well- known tire store, Ed's Tire and Automotive, servicing the Laurinburg area for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Ed was an avid Duke fan who also enjoyed working in his yard, golfing, fishing, and bowling, as well as fast pitch and slow pitch softball. He was a devoted father and grandfather, who loved spending time with family, especially his adoring grandchildren.
He passed away at the age of 83 on June 27, 2022.
Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Agnes Summey and Ruby Garner.
Ed leaves behind his sons, Alan Smith (Deneane) of Laurinburg, Ken Smith (Cindy) of Tyler, TX; sisters, Audrey Miller of Wilson, Marie Woods of Bennettsville, SC; grandchildren, Layne Smith, Brittany Parrish, Ken Smith, Jr., Aubrey Smith, three great grandchildren, Colson Smith, Dash Smith, Ky Smith, along with his nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Keith Woods. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to service on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
