David graduated from Rogersville High School in 1957 and finished a business course at Draughon's Business College before being employed at MFA Milling Company in Springfield from 1960-1964. On May 3, 1963, he was married to Linda (Green) Samuel, and they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on May 3, 2022. In October 1964 he became employed by Springfield City Utilities and retired as a dispatch clerk on March 13, 2001, after some 36- and one-half years. During his 20-year retirement he enjoyed going to flea markets, attending auctions, and accumulating a dish collection of early American dinnerware, numbering upwards of some 5000 pieces.
On September 15, 1957, David was baptized into Christ by Charles Perry at the Center Point Church of Christ where he and Linda attended during the first few years of their marriage. They later placed membership at Rogersville Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and later as an elder and beginning in July of 1997 moved their membership to the Fordland Church of Christ where he also served as an elder until shortly before his death.
David played steel guitar and enjoyed "jamming" with friends for several years before Covid called many enjoyed activities to a halt. He also served as a member of the Dodson Cemetery Board for many years.
David and Linda's marriage was blessed with two children: Dwight Samuel and his wife Carie and Davilyn "Dodi" Thomas and her husband Doug. Five grandchildren: Tyler Samuel, Shalyn (Thomas) O'Neal and her husband Caleb and great-grandson, Corbin, Parker Samuel and his wife Katherine; Daniel Thomas and Jackson Samuel, a sister-in-law, Judi Samuel, two brothers-in-law, Jerry Green and his wife Sherry, and Steve Green and his wife Middy; several other relatives and a host of sisters and brothers in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cotton and Lucille Samuel and by his only brother, Gary Samuel, as well as his mother and father-in-law, Alvin and Mildred Green and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sam and Judy Williams.
