Arnold A. Byer, age 85 of Watertown, South Dakota passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Arnold A. Byer, the son of Alex and Anna (Maiman) Byer, was born on September 22, 1922 at Florence, South Dakota. He attended eight years of school at Esterly Grades in Florence.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from June 23, 1945 during World War II until being honorable discharged on August 23, 1946.

Arnold was united in marriage with Margaret Helen Kranz on November 3, 1945 at St. Anthony's Church in Long Beach, California. He was a contractor for many years and was employed as a foreman at Jordan Millwork where he worked for 26 plus years before retiring in 1985 at the age of 62.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed making rosaries, fishing, bird watching, gardening and mowing his lawn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Robert (Sharon) Byer, Alan (Kay) Byer all of Watertown, SD, David (Brenda) Byer of Fargo, ND, Paul Byer of Watertown, SD, Janeen (David) Streeter of Rocklin, CA, Kevin (Nancy) Byer, Suzanne Byer (Berny Korf) all of Watertown, SD, Monica (Lee) Paulson of Maple Grove, MN and Lisa Byer of Watertown, SD; his siblings, Magdaline (Robert) Cordell, Edna (Dennis) Cordell all of Watertown, SD, Kenneth (Donna) Byer of Rochester, MN and Emery (Mary) Byer of Pierre, SD; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 25, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father James Bream as celebrant. Military Rites will be conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion.

Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Pattrick Byer, Jacob Paulson, Ben Byer, Christopher Streeter, Sam Byer, Matt Streeter and Caleb Paulson.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Byer, Craig Byer, Austin Amdahl, Todd Byer, Michael Byer and Nathan Byer.
