Irene's early years were spent in the communities of Conway and Gravity. She attended school in Athelston. On January 30, 1946 she was united in marriage to Raymond "Buddy" White in Bedford, Iowa. The couple resided in rural Blockton, Iowa. They later moved to Shenandoah.
Irene was employed by the Delmonico Hotel, Bernings Café, Eaton Corporation and also cleaned homes for several families. She was not afraid of hard work, which is why she worked for over 65 years of her life. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. Some of her interests included sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was quite talented with a thread, a needle and fabric. The family is blessed with many quilts that she made, which they will forever cherish.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, her beloved husband Buddy; sister and 4 brothers; as well as her daughter-in-law. Those left to cherish her memory include her 3 children, Richard White of Kearney, NE, Judy (Rod) Whitt of Oskaloosa, IA and Jeannie (Lynn) Webb of Shenandoah, IA; 7 grandchildren, Jeff (Debbie) White of Denver, CO, Julie (Casey) Jenson of Aurora, CO, Jessica (Kyle) Lawrence of Elm Creek, NE, Jenny (Craig) Melvin of Shenandoah, IA, Travis (Sherryann) Webb of Council Bluffs, IA, Christopher (Esther) Whitt of Oskaloosa and Matthew (Patti) Whitt of Oskaloosa, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
