Note: the military stone posted here was erected right next to the large red stone for T. S. & Harriette Loy and the Co. I, 71st Ill. Inf. matches what is stated in the cemetery records. Thomas S. served in this unit along with his brother John Henry Loy (1839-1913). Also serving in that unit were two sons of Thomas Moore Loy, Sr: George W. and John Matthew G. Loy. Thomas Moore Loy, Jr was only 13, too young to serve. In the 1850 census, Thomas S. Loy was listed as Thomas M. Loy-- he used middle initial M in other early records, too, making me believe this was his birth name. Perhaps to simplify the confusion, he later began using middle initial S. ~~ provided by Contributor: D. R. Walls
