Mary Deann Javaine Green, 82, of Barrington, IL, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2022, after a long illness. Born in Midvale, Utah on March 14, 1940, Mary was the daughter of Justine and Donald Javaine. A graduate of Jordan High School in Midvale, Mary loved ballet dancing and later attended the University of Utah, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

While in college, Mary met Richard "Dick" Green, an officer in the U.S. Navy, during a summer in San Francisco, where the two fell in love. They married in 1960 and due to Dick's long military career, the couple lived in many locations around the United States, including Washington, Virginia, Maine, Florida, California, Rhode Island and North Carolina. They had two sons, Mark, born in 1961 and Brad, born in 1968. After the sudden passing of her husband in 1998, Mary moved from Durham, NC to Barrington, IL to be near family and spend time with her young grandchildren. During her 22 years in Barrington, Mary became a cherished friend to many. She was fortunate to have met a special companion, Dr. Nicholas Katris, with whom she spent many years until his passing in 2019.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed attending opera performances and worked on the hospitality committee for the Barrington chapter of the Chicago Lyric Opera where she was known for her gorgeous flower arrangements. She was stylish and always put together; she had a knack for decorating and was also an amazing cook. Especially during the holidays, she spent hours in the kitchen lovingly preparing meals her children and grandchildren loved, and no special request was ever turned down. She never did anything halfway. She was a fun-loving grandmother who enjoyed doting on her four grandchildren, hearing about their activities and spending time with them. Her friends will remember her for her elegance and grace, kindness and selfless spirit. She loved sharing a long lunch with a Cosmopolitan or catching up with her girlfriends over a cup of coffee. She had a way of putting people at ease and bringing out the best in others.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick, in 1998 and her son, Mark L. [1961-2022].

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Jennifer Green of Dunwoody, GA; daughter-in-law, Mindi Green of Barrington; her cherished grandchildren, Lyle Green of Montpelier, VT; Zach Green of Barrington; Clara and Katherine Green of Dunwoody, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Marilyn Green of Harrisburg, PA; sister-in-law, Jennie T. Green, of Maple Glen, PA; and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Her ashes will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
