James Riley Cummings of Shell Knob, Missouri was born February 6, 1934, in Webb City, Missouri to Elmer and Laura (Crocker) Cummings. Jim passed away May 22, 2022, in Shell Knob at the age of 88.

On October 28, 1989, Jim was united in marriage to his loving wife Carol who survives him of the home. Other survivors include his children Vicki Harrold and husband Bob, Betty Brown and Jeff, and James Cummings and his wife Barb, along with seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother Elmer and Carol's son, Preston Welsh.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He attended Logan University and achieved his Doctor of Chiropractic degree and his passion for chiropractic care began. He was in practice for 44 years in Joplin, Missouri, retiring in 2003. Jim had the Mighty Melt Sandwich Shop in Joplin for nine years. His dream was realized in 2007 when he and Carol retired to Table Rock Lake in Shell Knob. Jim was a member of Lakeside Christian Church in Shell Knob and so enjoyed volunteering at the church. Jim loved to tell his stories--facts don't matter when there is a good story to be shared. If you ask Jim about his 2018 Honor Flight, you saw a veteran full of emotion.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2022, at Lakeside Christian Church in Shell Knob with Pastors Chet Shaw and David Prestridge officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeside Christian Church, P. O. Box 845, Shell Knob MO 65747 or Haven of the Ozarks Animal Shelter, 9617 Farm Road 2190, Washburn MO 65772. The family wants to sincerely thank the caring staff of Three Rivers Hospice Mt. Vernon. Arrangements are under the direction of Shell Knob Funeral Home.
