Larry Eugene (Cowboy) Johnson, 79, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, July 4 at his residence.

Graveside services were held Thursday, July 7, 11:00 a.m. at Pine Level Methodist Church Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Ga. Rev. Ronald Parks of Anderson Memorial Church, where Larry was a dedicated member, will be officiating.

Larry was born February 16, 1943 in Hillsborough County, Florida to the late Odessa M. Johnson Ross. He lived most of his life in Fitzgerald where many of his close friends called him "Cowboy" because in his early years, he was often seen wearing a western cowboy hat riding his bike around town. Larry had the "gift of gab" and he was known quite often to corner a good listener to hear stories of "the years he played with the Beatles on stage", "wild adventures of riding through the marshes of the Florida Everglades", and wrestling with the best of pros in the WWE. Most days you could find Larry at the Bulldog, Stop and Go convenience store on Hwy 319 greeting customers and stocking shelves. Many friends would stop and speak to Larry and would often find themselves caught up in listening to one of his stories and imagining how Larry conquered all this in his lifetime!

Cowboy was always a close friend and companion to Mr. Howard Bishop of Fitzgerald, who was his guardian and mentor for many years. The Bishop family and friends would like to express their appreciation to all who met Larry, for sharing your kind words and listening to his adventures. We will all truly miss his spirit.

Larry asked that when you think of him to find some way to help needy children along your journey in life.

Paulk Funeral HOme was in charge of arrangements.
