Prominent horseman, breeder, corporate executive. Founder of Meadow Stable (Doswell, Virginia) which produced many thoroughbred stars including 1972 Kentucky Derby & Belmont Stakes winner Riva Ridge and 1973 TRIPLE CROWN WINNER SECRETARIAT. One of the main founders of the New York Racing Association. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Jockey Club. Graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1909 where he was elected Phi Betta Kappa.
