CROWLEY, LA

Funeral services for Aaron Lee Cart, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Monday April 9, in St. Michael Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis Richard, Pastor will officiate . Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Crowley. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until time of service Monday at Geesey Fergerson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7p.m. Sunday. Mr. Cart died at 6 a.m. Saturday April 7, 2001 at Landmark Retirement Home.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Lantz Cart of Crowley, one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Bobbie Cart of Lake Charles; one daughter and son- in- law Shelby Cart Lafleur and Bryon Lafleur of Crowley; two sisters Iris Cart Ortego and Ella Cart Miller, both of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Cart Ardoin, Sherry Cart Lyons, Rusty Cart and Kevin Cart, all of Lake Charles, Kristi Cart Fontenot of Roanoke, Mike Lafleur of Manderville and Stacie Lafleur of Lafayette, and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ewell, Currel , and Vernon Cart and Vallie Cart. Pallbearers will be Mike Lafleur, Rusty and Kevin Cart, Dr. C.j. Ardoin, Steve Lyons, Matt Fontenot, and Field Landry.

Mr. Cart was born in Iota and received his basic education in the Iota Public School System. He later attended SLI ( now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) .

Throughout his adult life he maintained two concurrent careers- both as owner and operator of Cart's Grocery and Acadia Parish Police Jury President-Manager. He has had the second longest tenure as Police Jury President in Acadia Parish History. He enlisted int the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS New Mexico, which was the flagship for the Pacific Fleet Commander.

He was first elected as Police Jury President in 1961 and was later appointed to same concurrently as Parish Manager. He held the dual position until he retired in 1980. During this time he also served as President of the Louisiana State Police Jury Association.

He has been an active member of the American Legion since 1946, serving a term as commander of local Post 15. In this capacity he was active in obtaining the current Post building in Crowley. He was also a member of the Board of Management of the Crowley American Legion Hospital. He was a member of the Evangeline Economics and Planning District, Lafayette, Board of Directors since it's inception, having also served on the Exective Committee as Treasurer.

For many years Mr. Cart served LISA ( Louisiana Intracostal Seaway Association Board of Directors. Other accomplishments include membership on the Acadia Parish Library Board, involvement in the Rice Museum, and other tourism endeavors and he was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Acadian Ambulance Service in Acadia Parish area.
