Lois Katherine Bookout, daughter of Charles Woodford and Lula Maud Akins Embrey, was born August 13, 1912, near Seymour, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, January 31, 2004, in Glenwood Healthcare, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of ninety-one years, five months, and eighteen days.
On November 17, 1932, she was united in marriage to William Thomas Bookout, and to this union two daughters and four sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, on May 30, 1987; two infant daughters; one infant son; a grandson, Dewayne Terrill; two brothers, Jim and Erman Embrey; and a sister, Bunola Box.
Katherine is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, J. W. and Barbara Bookout, of Capitan, New Mexico, Dwight and June Bookout, of Seymour, Missouri, and Jerry and Freda Bookout, of Diggins, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Pam, Wendy, Lance, Darby, Kim, Chris, Matt, and Sherry; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nadine Wren, of Lenexa, Kansas, and Blanche Rainey, of Tulare, California; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Seymour community and attended Seymour High School. After she and William were married, they made their home on their farm, near Seymour, Missouri, and lovingly raised their children. In 1971, she and William left the farm life and moved into Seymour. Through the years, Katherine was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family.
Katherine had accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and attended different churches throughout her life.
She was a volunteer "Grandma" for the Seymour Head Start program for over twenty years. She enjoyed crocheting in her spare time and liked working in her garden. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing special recipes for her family and friends. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Katherine was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments, and will cherish the wonderful memories she created for us.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 - 8:00 under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Seymour, Missouri.
