He attended schools in Tulsa, Garber, and Duncan. In 1949, Jerry graduated from Alva High School and after one year of school at OU he joined the U S Navy Air Corp. He shipped out from San Francisco and served on the carrier USS Wasp until the end of the Korean War. After his service in the US Navy, Jerry returned to OU and earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1959 with honors. After graduation Jerry worked for Skelly/Getty in East TX and then Casper, WY, where he met his future wife, Nadine Muth. They were married in Jackson Hole, WY in 1963 and moved shortly thereafter to Tulsa, OK where Jerry worked at the Getty Corporate Headquarters.

Nadine continued her career as a teacher and taught high school in Tulsa. They built a beautiful home there but they both wanted to move back to the mountains. In 1970 Jerry jumped at the chance to move to Golden, CO when it was offered. Unfortunately, Nadine was diagnosed with breast cancer and eventually lost her battle with that disease in 1975. She was a beautiful and graceful woman and Jerry never stopped loving her. Jerry maintained their home they built together in Golden until his death. Jerry retired from Getty in 1985 after the Texaco Getty merger and began pursuing his interest in collecting full time. He loved Native American Culture, geology, Golden, CO history as well as family history. Throughout his life he was a devout Catholic and enjoyed his extended family. He looked forward to attending the annual Brown Family reunion in OK each year. His door was always open to the countless nieces and nephews who came to visit throughout the year.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his four brothers, Warren, Dick, Bob & Tom, and his brother-in-law Joe Edmonds. He is survived by two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
