John graduated from Salesianum School in 1954, the University of Delaware in 1958, and the Fordham University School of Law. He also retired as a Captain from the U.S. Army Reserves. After college, John moved to New York City to work for Union Carbide as a chemist. While working, he went to school at night to earn his law degree.
