Jimmie "Meme" loved to make her life and others beautiful. She was a wonderful decorator and showed her skills time and time again in her house, table settings, floral arrangements. She was an award winning member of the Alice
Garden Club. Every holiday was made more glamorous by Meme's elaborate decor.
Everyone that dined at her table felt like royalty. She made sure of it!
Jimmie was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church in Alice until they closed their doors in 2019. She was a member of the choir for 30 years. In fact, Jimmie and her desire to beautify had a hand in helping to turn First Presbyterian into the beautiful church for which it was known. The grounds were always impeccable and the inside was pristine and spotless.
The love of her life, Bud took her many places. They traveled all over the world and in the USA. They loved to go hunting together and many times Meme would bag the first deer! She was quite the shot! She loved to cook for her family and friends and some would recall infamous recipes containing the game that she or Bud shot. Jimmie and Bud (but more Jimmie) were quite the party animals. They hosted (she planned) and attended many parties in their lifetime together. Those two lovebirds were known for their exceptional dancing abilities. They seemed to float on air as they glided effortlessly along the dance floor together. There was actually not an invitation that Jimmie could say "no" to, potluck suppers, ice cream socials, too many parties and functions to name! Later in life she and her friends were also known around town by the locals as the "Chalupa Ladies" because they would hop from week to week/restaurant to restaurant - trying each of the town's chalupas. She was also still active in local bridge clubs (quite the card shark) until the onset of dementia and COVID happened. The party never ends with Jimmie. The family likes to kid around when Meme's birthday comes around saying that the WHOLE month of October needed to be set aside…because the party will not stop until SHE says so.
In the last decade Meme became a great-grandparent and her renewed purpose in life was restored. Her grandkids and great grandkids were her pride and joy. The kids always loved her funny competitive spirit as she would play cards/games with them, sew up stuffed animals that needed her emergent care and expert sewing skills and just listen to them play, as she felt her youth slipping away. May the party never end in heaven, sweet Meme.
Jimmie is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Dennis) Whitley of Alice, Carrie (JN) Wall of Houston, and Alice (Kurt) Rosenhagen of Nassau Bay, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family thanks health-care providers Priscilla Bueno and Sara Jimenez for their continued love, devotion and exceptional care of Jimmie Alice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
