Steve was born May 17, 1937, in Swain County to the late Alton and Dorothy Lindsey Green. He served our country in the US Army and retired after more than 30 years as a railroad engineer. He enjoyed farming and was an active member of Newfound Baptist Church where he was chairman of the cemetery committee.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie Shook Green; a daughter Angie Williams (Larry); sons, Randy Green (Donna) and Jeff Green (Pam); six grandchildren, Wesley Green (Candra), Kirby Wells (Grey), Jake Green (Katie), Ethen Green (Chelsea), Tiffani Williams (James Freeman) and Jason Williams; five great-grandchildren, Hadley Green, Mitchell Green, Sydney Wells, Walker Cassada and Mya Freeman; two sisters, Joyce Bramlett and Ann Welch and three brothers, Bruce, Roy and Wayne Greene.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Newfound Baptist Church with Pastor Bradley Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
