Albert was known as Mutt to most. He had been a longtime resident of Granite, Oklahoma and a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mangum, Oklahoma. Mutt was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet, never meeting a stranger. He was also the best Pa his granddaughters could ever ask for. Mutt was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mutt was born on May 4th, 1931, in Willow, Oklahoma. He was one of six children born to Joseph and Anna (Gelnar) Babek. Mutt graduated from Lake Creek High School in 1949. After high school graduation, Mutt served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force. After his service, Mutt attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. On August 11th, 1956, he married his sweetheart, Betty Jo Nelson. To this union they had one son, Jeffrey Babek.
Education was especially important to Mutt, so he continued his education and earned a Master of Teaching degree from Southwestern State College. Mutt's professional experience includes serving as the deputy warden at the Oklahoma State Reformatory and teaching at Altus and Granite Public Schools. He also served as a school counselor in Altus and served as principal for Granite Schools.
After 55 years of marriage, Mutt's wife, Betty, proceeded him in death on March 15th, 2012. Mutt was also proceeded in death by his parents and his brothers, Leon and Paul.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer Babek, as well as, his granddaughters, Kaycee and Annsley Babek, all of Meeker, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sisters, Joann Davis of Edmond and Agnes Sewell of Granite and a brother, Ernest Babek of Granite and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public Viewing will begin Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at People's Funeral Home located at 1400 W. Main, Lone Wolf, OK. 580-846-9018.
Services are scheduled Wednesday, July 6, 2022, 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mangum, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery. The United States Air Force Honor Guard will perform Graveside Rites. In lieu of flowers, Mutt has requested that donations be made to The Salvation Army.
