Mr. Joseph Jacks was born Dec 12, 1845 , and died Jan 4th, 1909, age 63 and 23 days.
Except a few years, Mr. Jacks spent his entire life in the community of his boyhood, where he had won the respect and confidence of all who knew him. He was a consistent member of the Milligan Springs Baptist Church, loved his church, was at all times ready and willing to assist in any and all of its work, considered it a pleasure and duty to join in with the rest, for that which was thought best for the master's cause.
Bro. Jacks will be greatly missed in his church, while absent there, it is one more in the realms of eternal bliss, where peace and joy reigns evermore, while sometimes we would, if it were in our power, take our loved ones back again, yet would it be right to rob them of their glory which they enjoy while beholding the glory of Christ.
As a citizen Bro. Jacks stood equal with any man in his community, loved the right and admired that equality in his fellowman, was always ready to assist his neighbors in time of need and was ready to lend a helping hand to the stranger.
He was married to Miss Nannie Vernon Jan 18, 1865. For 44 years they lived in their happy union until God saw fit to call the deceased to his eternal home. No children of their own brightened their home, yet in their home several orphans were gathered, not as servants, but as highly respected children, to whom they gave every fond attention of father and mother and a stranger could not have told but what they were their own. In this way God shows He is a Father to the fatherless.
To the berefit wife and relatives we extend sympathy and pray that he who is able to comfort will lend a helping hand in time of need. T. N. Lusk
