Dec. 10, 1917 - May 11, 2005

Leona Myers, 87, of Erskine, MN., passed away on Wednesday (May 11th), at First Care Hospital, in Fosston, MN.

Leona was born in Rushville, Nebraska, on December 10, 1917, to parents Peter and Winifred (Petersen) Lorenzen. She attended Rushville High School and graduated, with honors, as a member of the class of 1936. She continued her education by obtaining a teaching degree from Chadron State College, and then taught rural school until her marriage.

On September 2, 1942, she and Lawrence Myers, were married in Rushville, and began their married life on a farm, southwest of Gordon, Nebraska. In 1947, they sold the Nebraska farm, and moved to Warroad, Minnesota, where they purchased a farm south of town. A promotion for Lawrence brought them to McIntosh, Minnesota, in 1960, where they resided until building their retirement home, in 1975, south of Lengby.

In 1965, Leona began working as a nurses' aide at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home. She received additional training and also was a medical aide. She retired in 1985 and spent her retirement years traveling to all school events of her grandchildren.

In 1997, they moved to Erskine, where Leona resided at the time of her death.

Loving family members, who will miss her guidance daily, are daughter, Sherry (Milt) Brumwell of Erskine; and three grandchildren: Mike Brumwell of Erskine, Katie (Corey) Hanson and Scott Brumwell; along with special friend, Cassie Johnson, all of Fargo, ND. Also surviving is the joy of her life, great-grandson, Riley Hanson of Fargo; one brother-in-law, John (Mickey) Myers of Chicago, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Mildred Myers of Tabor, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; son, William (Billy); parents; brother, Leo; and sisters: Marie Kramer, Frances Haverkamp, and Inez Zink.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday (May 14th), at the Erskine Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lois Ball, officiating.
