Michael Dean Baker, age 73, of Jonesville, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 1, 1948, in Hudson to Elton and Joyce (Powers) Baker. Mike married Denise Royston on June 23, 1973, and she survives.
Mike graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1968. He served his country in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War from 1968-1972 and later joined the Army National Guard, serving from 1974-1982. For 31 years, Mike was employed as a deputy for the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department. During his law enforcement career, he also served as Hillsdale County court officer and school resource officer. Mike enjoyed camping, listening to Elvis, and watching sports and NASCAR. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of nearly 50 years, Denise Baker, Mike has four children, Rob (Robin) Kratzer of Georgia, Michelle - preceded (Chris) Steveson of Hillsdale, Doug (Lara) Baker of Hillsdale, and Dave (Jenna) Baker of Hillsdale; 13 grandchildren, Tyler Kratzer, KayLynne Kratzer, Ashlynn Steveson, Aaron Steveson, Dana (Travis) Ringman, Reed Baker, Kyle Baker, Lucy Baker, Tate Baker, Payton Baker, Chloe Baker, Zachary Baker, and Addison Baker; and four great-grandchildren, Ella Grace Wolf, Cora Lynn Ringman, Sawyer Roben Ringman, Theodore Lee Ringman, and two more on-the-way.
Visitation for Michael Baker will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022, from 1:00-4:00 PM at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with military honors being presented at 4:00 PM. Cremation will follow and family interment will be held at Bankers Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.
