25 July 1929 - 15 May 2022 Marion Crain Stewart came to Wilmington, Delaware in 1955, following her marriage to Clare A. Stewart, Jr., a research chemist with the Dupont Company. The daughter of William L. Crain and Marguerite Rice Crain, she grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended the University of Kansas City and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska. She worked for Ford Motor Co. in Kansas City and for the defense department in the Washington D.C. vicinity. In 1974, she earned a M.A. at the University of Delaware. An advocate for higher education, libraries, open space and good government, she was active in the Civic League for New Castle County, American Association of University Women, Delaware Nature Society's advocacy committee, and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She is survived by her brother, Bill Crain (& Kate Bartlett); 4 children: Bill (& Laura) Stewart, Margaret Stewart, Robbin Stewart, and Jeanie Stewart; 4 grandchildren: Sam Willgoose, Denny Willgoose, Zach (& Liz) Machiorlete, and Hannah Machiorlete; and one great grandchild: Leonardo Augustus Machiorlete. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, July 2nd, 11:00am at Aldersgate UMC, followed by lunch at Harry's Savoy Grill.
