Janice Anderson, long-time Sioux Falls resident, passed away January 10, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital. She was 67.
Janice Marie Anderson was born September 10, 1954, in Grand Forks, ND, to Raymond and Marie (Adkins) Rerick. She was raised in Grand Forks where she attended public schools. She graduated from Red River High School in 1972.
Jan was united in marriage to Ronald Anderson on May 12, 1972. The couple lived in Grand Forks where Jan became a loving mother to the couple's three daughters.
In the mid-1990s, Jan and Ron moved to Sioux Falls, SD. The couple took care of an apartment complex for a period of time, and Jan worked other various jobs. Shortly thereafter, Jan began her long-time career at the Louise Avenue Walmart Store. Starting as a cashier, she was then promoted to CSM before moving over to the Claims Department. She loved her job, the customers, and the people with whom she worked.
Blessed with a generous and giving heart, even as a teenager Jan would often take care of family needs. This graciousness passed through to her adult years as she became known as "the Walmart Angel," a nickname she earned by always being the first in line to take care of, or contribute to, a Walmart family member in need of help or assistance. She gave to others often without thinking first of her own needs. As a supervisor now stated, "Now Jan is known as the "Walmart Angel in Heaven."
In her free-time, she enjoyed cross-stitching and would always give away her framed work to those she loved. Neat, organized and tidy, Jan kept a clean house and would freely lend a hand to those who needed some extra help with that, too.
Jan was a faithful woman of grace, a trusted and good listener, and a friend to all who met her.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Kristine (Arnold Jacobson) Anderson, Mt. Vernon, WA, Billie Jo Hjelmeland, Sioux Falls, SD, Ronelle Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Casey, Kaylee (Jailyn), Logan (Rachel) and Clare; her brothers, Scott (Lynn) Rerick, Ashley, ND, Greg (Dianne) Rerick, Sioux Falls, SD, Matt (Misty) Rerick, Moorhead, MN, Pat (Lisa) Rerick, Moorhead, MN, Steven (Christine) Rerick, Moorhead, MN; and her sisters, Cathy (Leonard) Dose, Waubay, SD, Julie (Mike) Kautz, Sioux Falls, SD, and Jo (Scott) Rohr of Alexandria, MN. In addition to her husband, Ron, she is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Terry Rerick Sherman.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with Reverend Jordan Samson, Celebrant.
There will be a graveside service 11:00 am Friday, August 12, 2022 at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
