Barbara Lynn Thompson was born on September 1, 1961 at Columbia, LA to the union of her parents, William Thompson and Macie Moore Thompson. Following a courageous battle with numerous health issues she passed from this life to life anew, on Wednesday June 29, 2022 at her residence in West Monroe, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her father. Barbara was a bookkeeper and piano teacher. Her God given talent as a pianist and vocalist was a blessing to all who heard her perform. She loved to sing praises to her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was such a blessing to so many. She will truly be sorely missed.
The Thompson Family will host visitation at Riser & Son Funeral Home, located at 7131 U S Highway 165 in Columbia on Friday July 1, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service and Celebration of Life will be on Saturday July 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson.
To know Barbara was to love her! She genuinely liked people and she had a special place in her heart for the elderly, especially her Great Grandmother, Lillie Kirkland. She was a devoted daughter, aunt and friend. She and her Mom, Macie's relationship was one of a kind and they thoroughly enjoyed their numerous trips together across the country visiting relatives, friends and just sightseeing. Much to their despair, during a cervical spine surgery, an illegal artificial disc was placed in her neck in 2009. In a short few months, it caused her to become disabled. She didn't let that conquer her. She became a book reviewer for numerous renowned Christian Fiction Authors on the Internet. For several years she reviewed, and they posted her reviews. Those individuals became her good friends and of course she always received a book. She was especially fond of the Amish Fiction Books. The last trip she and her mom made together was to the Amish countryside in Ohio, as invited guests to an Author's Retreat where they met and made new life-long friends and encountered one-of-a-kind experiences just as Barbara had read about, in the numerous Amish Novels she had reviewed and published for over the years.
Barbara fiercely loved her niece, nephew and great nephews. She consistently challenged her great nephews to dedicate themselves to their school studies. After A's were achieved, a couple dollar bills would always somehow find their way in the mail to the boys. However, it was never a question for them, who sent them their hard-earned reward.
Barbara was a steadfast and loyal friend who valued each and every minute spent with her closest friends and many cousins, who lived far and wide. She loved to find unexpected opportunities to "be there" for her friends and family, especially in the most unexpected times. One of the many ways Barbara would help those around her, was to be the Uber Driver for the older folks who were uncomfortable driving…and this was before Uber was even a thing! She will be greatly missed, but knowing that for her God, she fought a good fight and kept the faith, hence forth she has received the crown he had just for her.
Those left to cherish her memory is her mother, Jessie M. Thompson, (AKA Macie), her brother Glen Thompson (Emma), special niece: Mindy Hart (Paul), special nephew: Matt Thompson (Christi), special great-nephews: Ethan, Preston, Tristan, Mason, and Liam, her special friends: Wanda, Wayne, and LauraLea Stowe, and a host of cousins and friends she loved dearly.
