John Edward Schultz, Sr., age 81, Town of Wescott, Shawano County, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in Appleton. He was born on July 2, 1940, to the late Clarence and Mabel (Duell) Schultz in Underhill. On September 30, 1961, John was united in marriage to Carol J. Kuhn in Pulcifer. He worked for many years as an auto mechanic for Schneider National Transport. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and restoring cars. John was an avid auto racer and well known at the Shawano Speedway where he raced from 1958-1976. He was track champion in 1967 and 1968. John also raced at the USAC from 1972-1975 where he finished 10th in point standing. He loved his family and especially cherished the time spent with his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Troy (Vauna) Schultz, Sharon (Kevin) Schultz-Barnard, Joann (David) Lyman, and John (Julie) Schultz, Jr.; six grandchildren, Brittney (Greg) Prokop, Tanya Lippert, Ashley (Jayme) Engen, Crystal Lyman, Joshua Lyman, and Zac (Tara) Lyman; seven great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Don (Marion) Schultz, Yvonne Trommer, James Schultz, Jerry (Judy) Schultz, and Pam Tetting.
John is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dick Schultz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 1:00-4:00 pm at the family residence, 6490 Fox Lane in Shawano.
