Tom was a graduate of Victoria High School. He began his grocery retail career with HEB at the tender age of 16. Tom still managed to graduate from Texas A&I with a Bachelor's Degree. He met and married the love of his life, Elva, in 1974 in Louisiana. His employment with HEB transferred him to South Texas where they stayed and raised their family until he retired as Unit Director for HEB in Kingsville.
Tom enjoyed being out at his ranch riding his tractor and tending to his cows. He also loved bowling, fishing, spending time with his family, and especially traveling. Tom was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Opal Short; brother-in-law, Robert Fawcett; and mother-in-law, Angie Lopez.
Loved ones left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 47 years, Elva Short of Alice, Texas, three children, Thomas Short, Jr., of Arkansas; Kimberly (Greg) Slavinsky of Tyler, Texas, and Randy (Schantiel) Garcia of Houston Texas; grandchildren, Tamara, Nicholas, and Matthew; and sister, Carol Fawcett of Alice, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a Chapel Service to be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Holmgreen Mortuary 2061 E. Main St., Alice, Texas, officiated by Minister Jeff McDougall. Christian Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
