In the 1930 census, Jean appears with her parents and siblings, living in Lincoln Township, Nodaway County, Missouri. In the 1940 census (and its 1935 residence listing), she appears with her parents and siblings, living in Lincoln Township (outside of Coin), Page County, Iowa. In the April 1950 census, shortly before her marriage, Jean is living in Sidney, Fremont County, Iowa as a young, single teacher, with a roommate who is also a teacher in the Sidney school system.
On July 18, 1950, in Bentonville, Arkansas, Jean was united in marriage to John Henry Armstrong, whom she had known since childhood. Their marriage license listed both of them as residents of Coin, Iowa at the time and they made their home together on a farm outside of Coin. In 1953, they moved to Wichita, Kansas, where John was employed as an Inspector by Boeing Aerospace. Their lives were blessed by a son, John David Armstrong.
Jean taught in Iowa at Sidney and Coin, and in Kansas at Wichita and Haysville. Jean and her husband John resided in Wichita and Haysville for nearly 60 years before John's passing. In 2014, Jean moved into an assisted living center in Clearwater, Kansas. In 2021, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to live with her son John. During her time in Haysville, she was very active in the Haysville United Methodist Church, Haysville PTA, and various neighborhood activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, John; brothers Richard Polsley and Lloyd (Jean) Polsley; and sister Martha (Dr. R.E) Gamble. Those left to cherish her memory include her son John David Armstrong of Las Vegas, NV; sister Lois Joan Polsley Sullivan of Temple, TX; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside Memorial Services were held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Haysville United Methodist Church at 601 E Grand, Haysville, KS 67060.
