Born in Troy to Kathleen (Danaher) and John "Jack" Dooley, he graduated from Catholic Central and served for eight years in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Robin (Barker) Dooley; sons, Jeremiah Dooley and Zachariah (Melayna) Dooley; his granddaughter, Amelia, and was predeceased by his granddaughter, Bayleigh. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia (Michael) Rosney and Kathie (Robert) Abeel.

Interment in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
