Mary Christian, 96, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022.

Mary was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 13, 1926, to Joe and Jessie Garcia. She graduated from Northside High School in 1946.
Her father Joe Tafoya Garcia opened his restaurant in 1935, Mary was nine years old when she started helping in the family business. Mary touched many hearts through all the years working at Joe T. Garcia's. Her passion was to keep her parents legacy alive. Her favorite part was being able to share their family's story with all their beloved customers and continued to share it until 2017.
Mary met the love of her life, James Douglas Christian, when he stopped at Joe T. Garcia's for a cup of coffee. They were married on June 8, 1955, and had three beautiful children. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2015.
She was mostly known as Memaw or Aunt Mary, and she will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, passion for Avon, famous fried chicken, and chocolate cakes. Memaw loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite thing was being their Memaw. She was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Douglas Christian; parents, Joe T. Garcia and Jessie T. Garcia; sisters, Josephine Castillo, Pauline Robinson, and Hope Garcia-Lancarte; brother, Ralph Garcia.
Survivors: Son, James Christian Jr. of Grandview; daughter, Darlene Bennett of Fort Worth; son, John Dale Christian of Fort Worth; grandsons, Jonathan Salazar and wife, Stephanie Salazar, of Alvarado, and John Dale Christian Jr. of Needville; granddaughters, Ashley Christian and husband, Alex Moss of Needville, Natalie Bennett of Fort Worth, Savannah Christian-Reagan and husband, Dakotah Reagan of Grandview, Madison Bennett of Fort Worth; great-grandsons, Jaydon Salazar, Nathan Salazar of Alvarado, Benjamin Rangel of Fort Worth, Stetson Reagan of Grandview; great-granddaughters, Emily Salazar of Alvarado and Lyla Galvan of Fort Worth; and numerous nephews and nieces.
