Donna Marie Byrd, 70, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Roanoke, stepped out of this life and into the arms of Her Lord and Savior on November 7, 2013, following a short illness. A graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and Dabney S. Lancaster and Bluefield College, she retired in 2010 from AECom, formerly Hayes, Seay, Mattern, and Mattern. She was a former member of the Celebration Church of God in Roanoke, where she was involved in the music ministry and women's ministry. She loved the beach, shelling, gardening, travelling, and spending time with family and friends.
She was a devoted and beloved mother to Christopher Alan Lewis, of Roanoke, and his wife, April and son, Jamie; and special sister to Barbara Ann Dunn and Wilma Jean Burns (Wayne), both of Orlando, Fla. She leaves behind special cousins who were like sisters and a brother to her, including Sue Spraker Meloon and Ted, Bob Byrd and Barbara, Gwen Mulholland, and other cousins; special friends Wayne and Raina Lewis, Evelyn Lewis, and Sandra Overstreet; "the girls" Marsha, Mollie, Brenda, and Betty; and her church family.
She was preceded by her parents, Roy A. and Laura Byrd and her natural father and mother, George Benjamin and Ruby May Hendricks Byrd. She will be missed and remembered for her spirit of love and encouragement, her strength, and her strong faith.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Celebration Church of God on November 17, 2013 following the morning worship services, which all are invited to attend. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Generous Hands Ministries in care of Charles and Becky Jackson, PO Box 294499 Lewisville, TX 75029-4499 for missions in Brazil and India.
