Victor was a son of Joseph & Maude Emily McMurray.

He served in WWII as Private 457441, with the Infantry Brigade, Second NZEF, 2nd Embarkation.
With the 6th Canterbury Regiment, T Force ..
He also served with the JAYFORCE - Sergeant, NZ Army Service Corps, British Commonwealth Occupation Force, Japan, 3rd Embarkation. He was a Packer of Dunedin. His next of kin was his mother, Maude Emily McMurray, 57 Shetland St., Dunedin.

LAST SEEN NEAR QUICKSANDS - Three children are missing at Port Waikato at the mouth of the Waikato river. They have not been seen since 7 o'clock tonight and fears are felt for their safety.
The children are Josephine McMurray, aged 12 and her brother Phillip, aged 10. Their parents are Mr and Mrs V. B. McMurray of 57 Herdman street, Avondale, and a friend, Anthony Moki, aged 7 who lived with his grandfather, Mr J. McMurray, in a house on Mr N. C. Cole-Baker's property.
Residents say that near where the children disappeared are dangerous quicksands.
The McMurray children were visiting Port Waikato with their parents and were staying the their grandfather, Mr J. McMurray, in a house on Mr N. C. Cole-Baker's property. Anthony Moki is a local boy.
The children were last seen near Quarry point, about a mile from the river mouth about 7p.m. The alarm was raised about 8.45 p.m. when they did not return. Constable P. H. Blackburn, of Tuakau, Mr Cole-Baker and other residents were searching the river, its banks and nearby bush late tonight.

HUSBAND, TWO CHILDREN KILLED .. Residents of the Auckland suburb of Waterview have opened a fund to send back to Italy a woman whose husband was killed on Friday, only nine months after the death of two of their three children.
She is Italian-born, Mrs Eva McMurray, who has no relatives in New Zealand.
On Friday night her husband, Victor McMurray, was hit by a car and killed not far from his home.
Last Christmas two of the McMurray's three children, Philip, aged 11 and Josephine, aged 12, were drowned in the Waikato river near Tuakau during a holiday.
Mr McMurray's death left Mrs McMurray with one daughter. Mrs McMurray met and married her husband during World War II in Italy when she nursed him back to health after he had been wounded. They settled in Dunedin after the war. Their flat there, with all their possessions, was destroyed by fire. They came to Auckland soon afterwards.

Mrs McMurray leaves - With tears in her eyes, an Auckland widow, Mrs Eva McMurray, expressed her thanks to the people of New Zealand before she sailed with her 12 year old daughter, Maria for Italy in the 'Fairsea' today.
Italian-born Mrs McMurray was expressing her gratitude to the New Zealanders who subscribed £600 (Dec 2021 equivalent of $27,600) to help her after the death of her husband in an accident last year and the loss of her son and other daughter by drowning a few months earlier.
She will spend 18 months with her parents in Rome, thanks to free passages for her and her daughter given by the Sitmar Line.

The McMurray Fund, started to assist a woman who lost two children and her husband in accidents in New Zealand, has now been wound up. She will receive more than £600. The fund was started by the Waterview Ratepayers' Association, Auckland, to help Italian-born Mrs Eva McMurray and her young daughter, Marie Antoinette,
Mrs McMurray lost her son and another daughter by drowning. Her husband was killed in a car accident last year.
Before the family moved to Auckland from Dunedin, they lost all their possessions in a fire.
In January this years Mrs McMurray and her daughter, who were living at Waterview, returned to Italy.
The Mayor of Auckland (Mr D. M. Robinson) said a claim for damages had been made arising from the death of Mr McMurray.
