His survivors include Jan and John Clarkson of Arlington Heights, Jeff Nelson of Wheeling, and Steve Nelson of Wheaton. He is also survived by his two grandchildren. Amy Carlson, her husband Matt and their children are Luke and Ella, live in Castle Pines, CO. Brad Clarkson and his wife Jocelyn live in Chicago, IL.
Bob married Doris Nelson (1926-1995) in 1950 in Pasadena California. Doris died in October 1995. Bob remarried Betty Poppinga in 2002 in Montclair, NJ. Betty passed away in July 2021. Bob had a large memorial service for Betty last year and told his family that because that service was a great celebration of his and Betty's lives, he did not want to have memorial service for himself. His family has granted his wishes and a small graveside service will take place at his interment at Wheaton Cemetery at 12:00 on Wednesday June 29th.
One of Bob's favorite Bible passages was Hebrews 10: 23-25. "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
