Gary "Butch" Henry DesJarden, age 75, of Cooks, MI passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2022 at his residence with his wife at his side. He was born on December 19, 1946, in Manistique, MI the son of Napoleon and Lila Ann (Popour) DesJarden. He attended schools in Cooks, MI. Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.
Butch married Patricia Charlotte Deloria in Cooks, MI on May 25, 1983. He was a member of Local 324 Operating Engineers Union, working road construction as a heavy equipment operator. After retirement, he worked for his brother Allen at DesJarden Excavating for a number of years. He was of Catholic faith and attended St. Mary Magdalene Church in Cooks. He liked deer hunting, enjoyed fishing and camping, snowmobiling, and was an avid Harley fan. He enjoyed gardening and picking mushrooms and berries. Butch loved the woods and being outdoors, spending time with his friends and family.
Butch is survived by his wife Patti DesJarden, of Cooks, MI, his daughter, his "Punk" Amber (Matthew) Zelecki of Newberry, MI; brothers Junior (Phyllis) DesJarden of Manistique, MI, Allen (Marylee) DesJarden of Manistique, MI, Elroy DesJarden of Cooks, MI, Jay (Marci) DesJarden of Cooks, MI, Dean DesJarden of Cooks, MI; sisters Rita Sturdy of Gladstone, MI, Verna LaKosky of Fairport, MI, Shirley Shampine of Manistique, MI, Karen Pilon, of Nahma, MI, Bonnie Elliott of Cooks, MI; and a great many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Napoleon and Lila DesJarden, and his brother Terry DesJarden.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will take place at Inwood Township Cemetery on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions in Butch's name can be sent to the Inwood Township Fire Department, EMS Division, to Clerk Robin Double, 1191S County Road 442, Cooks MI 49817.
