Thomas L. Cole, 74, of North East, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday June 21, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born in Erie on October 19, 1947 a son of the late Lester P. "Lefty" and Sara Elizabeth "Betty" Bell Cole.

Tom graduated from Academy High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a pipefitter for 50 years with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #47 (Steamfitters Local #449), and had been employed majorly at Scobell Co. Tom was a proud member of the Zem Zem Shrine Club where he played drums in the pipe band. He belonged to the Harborcreek Moose Club, the North East American Legion Post 105, the Temple Royal Arch Chapter 215, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Erie, and was a 32nd degree Mason with the Tyrian-Commonwealth Lodge 362 F & AM. He played football for the Erie Jets and Panthers and played softball for many softball leagues in Erie. He enjoyed hunting, spending time at his camp in Clarendon, listening to oldies, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland sports teams.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandchild in infancy.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Julie Burke Cole; two daughters, Kristine Cole (Jacob Lane) of North East and Rebecca Smith (Jeff) of Erie; one grandchild, Carter Smith; one sister, Barbara Damico (Gary) of Erie; and a niece and several cousins.

Friends are invited to a Celebration of Tom's Life at the North East American Legion, 17 S Mill St, North East, PA 16428, on Thursday, June 30th from 5 to 8 p.m. including a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 W 38th St, Erie, PA 16506, or the Anna Shelter, 1555 E 10th St, Erie, PA 16511.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
