Larry Norman King, 87, of Richmond, VA, a beloved husband, father, Papa and brother died peacefully at home on June 21, 2022 after a long struggle with his health. His big heart was just worn out.
Born in What Cheer, IA in 1935 he grew up in Grinnell, IA where graduated high school and met the love of his life. After earning a BA from Greeley College in Colorado, he wed Beverly in 1956, joined the US Navy (where he served his country with distinction as an officer for 21 years), raised two children and made friends all over the globe. Upon retirement they moved to Charlottesville, VA then to Richmond, VA. Most days found Larry puttering about his yard or making all kinds of wonderful things in his wood shop. His cheerful, fun loving personality was shared with everyone and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his adored bride of 66 years, Beverly (Hanson) King, he is survived by his daughter Debra Unger (Larry) of Woodbridge, VA; son Steven King (Amy) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Nicole Unger of Reston, VA, Zachary and Corey King of Richmond, VA; his brother, Jack King (Phyllis) of Arizona; sister Katie Libasci (Frank) of Florida; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Cecil and Emily King; brothers, Kenneth Gene, Wayne and Donald King of Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Tuckahoe Pines Retirement Community, 12330 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA on Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 3 to 5 PM. Interment of his cremains will take place at a later date. All friends and loved ones are welcomed by the family to attend.
