Gene was a hardworking man all his life, working multiple jobs, tending to the land, and bush hogging properties for AT&T, where he later retired.
Aside from his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Woolen Duncan in 1994; a son, Samuel "Sammy" Eugene Duncan, Jr. in 1961; two daughters, Rose Stearns in 2012 and Junie Duncan in 2019; and two brothers, Albert Lee "Shorty" Duncan and Grover Duncan.
Throughout his life, Gene remained hardworking, honest, and committed; to those in his family, those he worked alongside, and his community. He instilled positive values in his family, still honored to this day. The understanding we are placed on this earth for a period, to do good with that time, and understand one day we will die, so enjoy the life you have and the people you're blessed to have in it.
He is survived by his spouse of 26 years, Shirley Ann Spurlock. They became best friends quickly in 1996 and remained such until his death. Gene is also survived by his daughter, Doris Duncan; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Clara "Sis" Duncan Greer.
Memorial Services will be held by family, where Mr. Duncan will be buried in McGrady Creek Cemetery in Olaton. Arrangements by Hartford Memorial Funeral Chape
